Choosing a platform

Custom code or Wix Studio? We build both.

The right platform depends on who will update the site and what it has to do. Here's how we help clients decide — and the longer version is in our Wix Studio vs. custom code guide.

Custom code

Astro · Next.js · Netlify

Best for: Sites that need custom features, careful performance work, or a design a site builder can't handle.

  • Built from scratch on modern frameworks and deployed to fast hosting
  • Room for custom features — menu builders, searchable resource libraries, checkout flows
  • A standard codebase that isn't tied to a site-builder subscription
  • Content edits through a maintenance plan, or a CMS if we add one

Wix Studio

Visual editor · Wix hosting

Best for: Teams that want to update text, photos, events and blog posts themselves.

  • Designed and built inside Wix Studio, then handed over with training
  • Edit pages, collections and events yourself in a visual editor
  • Wix apps for stores, bookings, memberships and payments
  • Runs on Wix's own hosting under a Wix plan

What we build

Sites with a job to do, built for that job.

Small business websites

Clear service pages, a strong first screen and an easy way to get in touch or request a quote. Most small-business sites launch in 3–6 weeks.

Ecommerce websites

Product catalogs, cart and checkout — on Wix's store tools or a custom build with Stripe. Queen of the Nile, a Burbank salon, sells products and gift cards through its Wix Studio site. Online stores typically take 6–10 weeks.

Nonprofit websites

Sites that explain the mission and make it easy to give, join and volunteer. Friends of the Burbank Public Library takes paid memberships online, Burbank Housing Corporation publishes how-to-apply and waiting-list updates, and Home Again LA — a site we designed and donated — sets out its many ways to give.

Website redesigns

We start with your current site: what's working, what content is worth keeping and what's holding it back. Then we plan the new page structure and redirect old URLs to their new homes, so existing links and search listings keep working. Moving content across is scoped in your proposal like any other task.

What's included

Know what you're paying for before you sign.

Every proposal lists exactly what's in scope. This is how a typical website build breaks down.

In every build

  • Design and build of the pages in your proposal (the first five are part of every base price)
  • Mobile-first layouts that work on phones, tablets and desktops
  • Page titles, meta descriptions and a clean heading structure on every page
  • A full preview of the site to review before it goes live
  • Launch on your domain, with go-live coordinated by us

Optional add-ons

  • Extra pages beyond the first five
  • Custom or fully bespoke design (template-based is the starting point)
  • Copywriting and custom photography
  • SEO setup — schema markup, sitemap and Google Business Profile ($800)
  • Online booking or multi-step forms
  • Integrations with the tools you already use

Separate monthly or third-party costs

  • Managed hosting — plans from $25/month
  • Maintenance plans — $50 to $200/month
  • Domain registration
  • Third-party subscriptions, such as Stripe, Mailchimp or a Wix plan

After launch: custom-coded sites can be hosted on our managed hosting plans (SSL and automated backups on every plan, from $25/month), while Wix Studio sites run on Wix. For ongoing changes, maintenance plans start at $50/month for 1 hour of updates a month, with turnaround within 2 business days.

How a project runs

Four steps, no black box.

01

Discovery call

A free 30-minute call about your business, your audience and what the site needs to do. If we're not the right fit, we'll say so.

02

Fixed-price proposal

A written scope covering pages, features, timeline and one fixed price. Payment is 50% up front and 50% at launch.

03

Design & build

Layouts first, then the build, which you can preview before anything goes live. You review at each milestone, so feedback lands while changes are still easy.

04

Launch & handoff

Final checks, go-live on your domain and a walkthrough of how updates work. Hosting and maintenance are available as separate monthly plans.

FAQ

Before you hire a web designer.

It depends on who will update the site and what it needs to do. Wix Studio suits teams who want to edit pages, events and blog posts themselves. Custom code suits sites that need custom features or careful performance work, and it isn't tied to a site-builder plan. We build both and will recommend one on the discovery call. For a deeper comparison, read Wix Studio vs. custom code.

Ownership of the design, code, content and domain is set out in your written proposal before any work starts, and we recommend registering your domain in your own name. Platform matters here too: a custom-coded site is a standard codebase that can be hosted elsewhere, while a Wix Studio site stays on Wix.

Your logo and brand colors if you have them, the text for each page, photos, and access to your domain. Missing pieces are fine: copywriting and custom photography are optional add-ons you can price in the cost calculator, and logo and brand design is a service of its own.

Most small-business sites take 3–6 weeks, online stores 6–10 weeks, and web apps 8–14 weeks. The biggest variable is content: projects move fastest when the text and photos are ready before the build starts.

Yes. On Wix Studio you can edit text, images and collections yourself, and we'll show you how at handoff. For custom-coded sites, or if you'd rather not do it yourself, our maintenance plans run from $50 to $200 a month and include 1 to 6 hours of updates.

Every site is built mobile-first with page titles, meta descriptions and a clean heading structure. A fuller SEO setup — schema markup, an XML sitemap and Google Business Profile setup — is an optional add-on at $800.
